Items & revisions
The item master is the backbone of the system. Every part, assembly, or purchased component is an item with a unique part number per workspace.
Lifecycle states
Items (and documents) move through four lifecycle states:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
in_work | Editable — being designed or updated |
in_review | Frozen while under formal review |
released | Approved for production; editing requires a change |
obsolete | Retired; kept for history, not for new use |
Released and obsolete items cannot be checked out — modifying them goes through change management.
Check-out / check-in
Editing an item requires checking it out, which locks it against concurrent edits. Only the person who checked an item out (or an admin) can check it back in. The item's creator gets a notification when someone else checks their item out.
Revisions
Each item carries a revision history (A, B, C…). A revision captures the item's state at a point in time; the current revision is what BOMs and inspection plans reference. New revisions are typically produced by implementing an approved change.
